Day Charters
Charters begin at Brightlingsea Essex. Passengers are collected by launch and taken out to the barge anchored in the river.
After refreshments we will sail out of the Colne River and into the outstanding beauty of the Blackwater Estuary - be sure to bring a camera.
Get involved with hoisting the anchor and setting the sail, or just watch and enjoy the spacious deck and the experience of sailing an 80ft Thames Sailing Barge.
Lunch consists of a delicious two course homemade buffet with hot and cold drinks. Wind and tide dependent, Edme will anchor during this time.
Costs
Costs are £65 per person including lunch and refershments.
For £650 you can charter the whole barge for up to 12 people.
The charters are best suited to taking group bookings. They are ideal for clubs, societies, groups of friends or famillies wanting to share a special birthday or anniversary.
A day sail on Edme can encompass a variety of interests from the estuary and its wildlife, to photography and painting. You can help sail the barge or sit back and enjoy the spectacle. No sailing experence is required and due to her size and stability, there is little chance of feeling sea sick! Being without an engine guarantees a pure sailing experience unchanged in 100 years.
We would like to mention that the charters are non-profit making. The funds are essential for the upkeep of this historical ship and her future survival. Only thirty odd Thames Barges exist today from the thousands that carried cargo around the East Coast and up to London before the days of road and rail.
